The ESAO Awards Ceremony 2019 will be framed within the Cultural & Gastronomic EVOO Days organised by Casa Mediterráneo
Casa Mediterráneo will host the delivery of the ESAO Awards, the prizes sponsored by the Olive Oil School of Spain to the quality of Extra Virgin Olive Oils.
The delivery of the aforementioned prizes will be framed within the Cultural & Gastronomic EVOO Days, which will take place on June 4th and 5th at Casa del Mediterraneo facilities in Alicante.
“Through the ESAO Awards, we want to recognize the important work of all EVOO producers that are making an enormous effort to ellaborate outstanding high quality extra virgin olive oils,” says Susana Romera, Technical Director of ESAO.
The ESAO Awards consist of different categories among which not only Spanish but also international oils compete. “We have reserved a category in which all Spanish and International EVOOs will compete together.” continues Marta González, Executive Director of ESAO. “We expect to receive a number of international EVOOs from countries such as Portugal, Italy, Greece and the North of Africa, among others. EVOO quality is growing in all these countries, and we are more than happy to share and recognise their job.”
It is anticipated that several important personalities from the gastronomy-world such as Michelin star chefs will participate in the Awards Ceremony. In addition, winning EVOOs will be available to be tasted within a specifically dedicated space.
Casa del Mediterraneo is a non-profit institution aimed at fostering relations among the countries of the Mediterranean basin. It is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain, the Valencian region and the city councils of Alicante and Benidorm.
It works to attaining a better understanding of the reality of the Mediterranean nations, and to promote relations among their citizens based on tolerance and respect for diversity. Over the last three years, thousands of people have had the chance to discover different aspects of the Mediterranean region by attending hundreds of their events, including seminars, conferences, debates, exhibitions, musical performances and film festivals.
These activities have helped to overcome stereotypes and to foster an open and inclusive dialogue which has served to strengthen bonds of friendship and cooperation between Spain and other Mediterranean countries.
Gastronomy is understood in this context as an essential element of identity and of cultural belonging, and it is closely linked to a given region’s heritage.
